The School Community

School is one of the most talked about institution in this country. For one reason or another there is always an issue related to schools in the news. It can be disciplinary issues, social problem issues, high achievers, students needing help, teachers punishing students unfairly, best students not getting scholarships they deserve, teachers not getting promotion, teaching language for scienceand maths....It is almost endless will remain so.

Why is such a situation? Of course different people view these differently. However if ever the whole thing could be simplified and turned into a mathematical equation, it is because schools are perceived as the main element of a learning society. In modern days almost everybody goes to school except perhaps those unfortunate enough for health reasons, for example. As such, school as an institution has indeed a very big role to offer to the society. Why then schools are not taken care off properly. School is almost a factory to produce future human capitals in terms of workforce and more importantly excellent future individuals who can them form part of excellent society.

It is therefore imperative for all of us to understand the role and position of schools in our society. With this understanding we then can find ways to preserve the schools so that they can function as intended i.e. human factory. We need to ensure the machines, processes and all systems are in good order whatever it may take. Consequently, maintenance culture is necessary. Obviously resources are needed to enable the objectives are met. This is where all members of the community should come together to support the school in whatever ways. Parents/Guardians of course are the main elements. Community leaders, relevant government agencies, relevant NGOs and corporate citizens should all be part of the School Support Network. In Bandar Sunway, efforts to rally the different groups around SMKBS have started a couple of years ago with the setting up of the Majlis Permuafakatan SMKBS. With the school performance improving as well as achievements through various sports and co-curriculum activities, SMKBS is indeed becoming the most valuable flag barrier for Bandar Sunway. All Bandar Sunway residents should feel proud with this achievement, not only the warga sekolah. With the pride translated into support of resources, SMK Bandar Sunway will move to the higher plain!
